Comments and highlights

Comments and highlights attach to captures — clipped pages, articles, threads, files, videos. Your own notes cannot be commented on: edit the note instead.

The highlighter is per site and explicit. Turn it on for a site from the side panel; it runs only on the exact sites you enable and can be disabled per site anytime. On an enabled site:

  • Select text to save a highlight, or add a quoted comment on the selection (also available from the right-click menu).
  • Add a page comment to any saved page from the side panel.
  • When you revisit the page, Sensefold checks whether it is in your library and restores your marks in place.

Highlights are drafted locally in the extension and uploaded to your account; a highlight created before the page itself is saved is attached once the page is captured.

  • Quoted comments on any capture’s text.
  • Video comments pinned to a time point in the video — on the web app and iOS.
  • A single page-level comment per item.

Everything syncs in realtime across the extension, the web and macOS apps, and iOS.

  • Export — each item’s Markdown file ends with a ## Comment section and a list of highlights with their quote or timestamp and note; see Export your library.
  • MCP — today get_item returns the item’s text, title, tags, summary, and source URL; comments and highlights are not included in what an agent reads.

On the sites where you enable it, the highlighter reads the page text locally in your browser to restore marks and sends only the page address to Sensefold to look the item up. See the privacy policy for the full extension data model.
