Save an AI conversation as Markdown

One click on the conversation page saves the full thread as clean, speaker-labelled Markdown — questions, answers, and code blocks preserved, searchable next to everything else you keep, and readable by your own AI over MCP. Conversations live behind your login, so this is a Chrome extension feature: Sensefold cannot visit a private chat for you.

How do I save a ChatGPT conversation?

1. Open the conversation in Chrome — a chat page (chatgpt.com/c/…), a share page (chatgpt.com/share/…), or a project conversation (chatgpt.com/g/…/c/…). The whole thread must be visible on the page; the sidebar list of other chats is not captured.
2. Open Sensefold from the Chrome toolbar and choose Capture this page. The first time you capture on a site, Chrome asks for access to that site.
3. Review the preview: the full conversation as extracted, an AI summary, and suggested tags. The preview is free — no credits are spent until you save.
4. Choose Save. The conversation lands in your library as a Markdown item with its summary and tags.

What does the Markdown look like?

Each turn becomes a bold speaker label followed by that turn’s content, with a horizontal rule between turns. Headings, lists, tables, links, and fenced code blocks survive as Markdown:

What differs per assistant:

• ChatGPT — the speaker label is the name ChatGPT shows on the page (for example You and ChatGPT), so it follows the interface language. Web citations inside an answer become numbered footnotes with the cited domain listed at the end of the capture. Works on chat, share, and project conversation pages.
• Claude — turns are labelled You and Claude.
• Gemini — turns are labelled You and Gemini. Tables in answers are kept as Markdown tables, and the sources Gemini lists are appended as footnotes.
• Grok — turns are labelled You and Grok.

What is not captured

• The rest of your history. Capture is one conversation at a time — the one open in the tab. Sensefold does not import a ChatGPT or Claude export ZIP and does not sync your chat history in the background.
• Attachments. The capture is the conversation text as rendered on the page. Files you uploaded to the chat are not copied into Sensefold, and images in the thread stay references to where they are hosted.
• Private chats through the link path. Sharing a chatgpt.com/c/… URL from the iOS share sheet, or pasting it into the web app, does not work: Sensefold visits links as a signed-out visitor and the page shows nothing. That is why the table above marks the link path N/A — and why the iOS app cannot capture AI chats.

Can I export my whole ChatGPT history?

Not through Sensefold. What Sensefold does is capture the conversations worth keeping, one click each, as they happen — and then keep them alongside the articles, threads, and notes they relate to. Once captured, a conversation is a regular library item: it can be copied as Markdown from the extension or the iOS app, and it is included in the whole-library Markdown ZIP export.

Why can’t I share a ChatGPT link to save it?

Chat URLs only render for the account that owns them. A ChatGPT share link (chatgpt.com/share/…) is public, but the extension is still the better path: it captures the speaker labels and code blocks exactly as rendered, and lets you review the summary before saving.

After saving

Captured conversations are enriched like any other capture — a summary and tags on save, which is what spends credits — and are searchable by keyword and meaning. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or any MCP client and it can search for the conversation, read it in full, and cite the item by its library link.
